2002 Centennial Celebration by Summit Avenue Presbyterian Church, Bremerton, WA

Church building history - Selected dates

Sept. 18, 1892 - First public meeting, with 25 in attendance voting to form a church and construct a building
Jan. 13, 1893 - First church service, held in the public school with Rev. Thomas McGuire
Nov. 30, 1893 - First service in new church building at Port Orchard (later renamed Charleston)
June 2, 1894 - Articles of incorporation of the first Presbyterian Church of Port Orchard filed
March 2, 1902 - Organized and chartered by the Presbyterian Church, with 18 charter members
Feb. 26, 1903 - Port Orchard renamed to Charleston, and church became Charleston Presbyterian Church
March 14, 1923 - First church building demolished in preparation for construction new building
Nov. 27, 1924 - New church building dedicated with Rev. George W. Davis as minister
April 17, 1929 - Renamed Summit Avenue Presbyterian Church, with Charleston part of Bremerton since 1927
August 8, 1965 - Last service in second building, with construction of third building completed
Nov. 1, 1992 - Last service in third building, with construction of fourth (and current) building
