Evan RAGLAND - b. about 1656, St. Decumen's Parish, Somerset, England; d. May 30, 1717, St. Peter's Parish, New Kent Co., VA. Son of Thomas RAGLAND and Jane MORGAN. An unconfirmed report is that Evan RAGLAND was abducted from the village of Watchet, England and brought to America. Married about 1680.

Susanna PETTUS? - The identity of the wife of Evan RAGLAND Sr. is not supported by any known document, but is apparently founded on conjecture based on naming patterns of RAGLAND descendants. Various family histories name her as Susanna PETTUS, daughter of Stephen PETTUS of New Kent Co., VA. Any evidence identifying the wife of Evan RAGLAND Sr., or that Stephen PETTUS had a daughter named Susanna is desired.

1. Catherine 'Katy' - about 1681, St. Peter's Parish, New Kent Co., VA. Married 1696 in Middlesex Co., VA to John DAVIS (b. Glamorganshire, Wales). Son: William married Elizabeth SHELTON.
2. Evan - b. about 1683, St. Peter's Parish, New Kent Co., VA; d. about 1739, St. Peter's Parish, New Kent Co., VA.
3. Thomas - 1685, St. Peter's Parish, New Kent Co., VA; d. Feb. 15, 1719, St. Peter's Parish, New Kent Co., VA. Children: Isaac; Jacob; Elizabeth; William; and John.
4. Stephen - b. about 1688, St. Peter's Parish, New Kent Co., VA; d. 1747, Northampton Co., NC. A planter, ferryman and warehouseman, Stephen served as precinct overseer, road gang supervisor, and tobacco tax collector in St. Paul's Parish, New Kent Co., VA.  Married about 1713 in New Kent Co., VA to Mary HUDSON. Children: Evan; George; Frederick; William; Stephen; and Agnes married first Ephraim MERRITT and second Joseph LANGSTON.
5. John - b. about 1690, St. Peter's Parish, New Kent Co., VA; d. Jan. 1750/1, Hanover Co., VA. A planter, John was a land speculator in Hanover Co., VA. Married about 1715 in St. Paul's Parish, New Kent Co., VA to Anne BURFORT. Children: Samuel; John; William; Edward; Evan; James; Pettus married his first cousin once removed Elizabeth DAVIS (daughter of William DAVIS and Elizabeth SHELTON); Martha married Thomas TINSLEY; Mary married Nathaniel BOWE, Sr.; Anne married John JONES; Frances married Jeremiah PATE; Susanna married William BREWER; and Sarah married Edmund BREWER.

Evan RAGLAND - b. about 1683, St. Peter's Parish, New Kent Co., VA; d. about 1739, St. Peter's Parish, New Kent Co., VA. Son of Evan RAGLAND and Susanna PETTUS. A planter, Evan served as a road gang supervisor. The name of his wife and mother of his children has not been located, but she was possibly Hannah (WALKER) RAGLAND, daughter of William WALKER and Elizabeth WARREN.

1. Nathaniel - b. about 1707, St. Peter's Parish, New Kent Co., VA; d. about 1760. Birth not found in Register of St. Peter's Parish. Married about 1735 to Elizabeth. Children of Nathaniel and Elizabeth RAGLAND: John; Nathaniel; James; Joseph; Samuel; William; Nancy; David; Edmund married Elizabeth ROWLAND; and Elizabeth.
2. William - bap. May 29, 1709, St. Peter's Parish, New Kent Co., VA; d. about 1773.

Judith RAYMOND - bap. Apr. 9, 1710, St. Peter's Parish, New Kent Co., VA. Daughter of James RAYMOND. Judith was likely the sister or half-sister of John RAYMOND (b. Sep. 10, 1717, St. Peter's Parish, New Kent Co., VA) and Susanna RAYMOND (b. Aug. 10, 1722, St. Peter's Parish, New Kent Co., VA), children of James RAYMOND and Unity. An unamed event for an unamed son of James RAYMOND was recorded on Oct. 8, 1717 - perhaps the baptism or, more likely, the infant death of son John.

2. Hannah - b. Mar. 26, 1738/9, St. Peter's Parish, New Kent Co., VA; bap. there Apr. 22, 1739. Married Sylvanus MASSIE.
