Leonard was a tanner and currier, and served in the Revolution. Married
May 4, 1781, Woodstock, CT Lucy BOND (b. Dec. 26, 1759, Watertown,
Middlesex Co., MA; d. Jun. 4, 1843, Woodstock, Windham Co., CT),
daughter of Col. William BOND and Lucy BROWN. Children: Dr. William
Bond married Lydia (BULKELEY) WORTHINGTON; Lucretia married Philip
DEANE; Spencer died in infancy; Leonard married his cousin Sally Breese
MORSE; Elias married Eliza MAY; Lucy died in infancy; and Lydia died in
infancy.

Capt. Elijah and Sarah (Child) Mason
Elijah MASON - b. Jan. 25, 1754, Woodstock, Windham
Co., CT; d. May 11, 1837, Wethersfield, Wyoming Co., NY. Son of
Elias MASON and Lydia BROWN. Elijah died
"Thursday morning 5 Oclock" "of convulsive fits."
A founder of Pomfret, VT and Capt. in the militia, he served in
the Revolution as Sgt., scout and supplier of the Northern Army.
His service as summarized in pension file W1043
was as follows:
While a resident of Pomfret, Vermont, he enlisted in March, 1776
and served fourteen months as sergeant in Captain Benjamin Wait's
Company in the Detachment of Vermont Rangers under Joab Hoisington,
Major Commandant. He enlisted about the middle of June, 1777, served
four months as private in Captains Smith's and Joshua Hasen's
Companies, Colonel Marsh's Vermont Regiment. A few weeks later, he
served as private about two weeks against the Indians at Barnard,
Vermont. He enlisted about September, 1780, served two months as
sergeant under Captain Jesse Safford, was in a skirmish with the
Indians at Royalton and at Bethel, Vermont. In the winter, 1781, he
served two weeks as private against the tories. On May 8, 1781, he was
commissioned by Thomas Chittenden, Governor of Vermont, Lieutenant in
the 6th Company of the Alarm, 4th Regiment and served a few days as
such. On October 3, 1782, he was commissioned by Governor Thomas
Chittenden, Captain and was called out for a few days.
[Note: the service record recorded on NSDAR application No.
47847 is in error.] A carpenter by trade, he built the meeting
house at Pomfret and was a charter member of the church organized
there in 1783. In 1798 he moved to Hartwick, Otsego Co., NY, and
about 1800 to Tully, Onadaga Co., NY, located about 5 miles northeast
of Preble (or New Homer), Cortland Co., NY. At Preble, Elijah
was justice of the peace, deacon and elder in the Presbyterian
Church, to which he was admitted in Aug. 1804. At the first Town
Meeting of Preble, on May 3, 1808, Elijah was chosen Constable;
on Apr. 3, 1810 he was chosen as an Overseer of the Poor, Fence
Viewer and Pound Master; and on Apr. 4, 1815 he was again chosen
Fence Viewer and Pound Master. The Session minutes of the Preble
Presbyterian Church, Dec. 31, 1827, records the excommunication
of Elijah MASON:
The case of brother Elijah Mason was again brought up & after
carefully & with prayer, looking over the same, all hope of his
recovery by pursuing still further any measure less painful being cast
-- the Session now here, feel compelled to adjudge & determine as
follows -- vis, that he <the said?> Elijah Mason, <unclear>
he hereby is excommunicated from the church of our Lord & Saviour
Jesus Christ on earth, for his sin of contumacy in not submitting to
the directions prescribed him by the Presbytery of Onondaga Sept. 4th,
1823 & repeated by the Presbytery of Cortland Mar. 14, 1827.
Elijah moved to Gainesville, Wyoming Co., NY in 1828, and to
neighboring Wethersfield the following year. Married first Jan. 19,
1775, Woodstock, Windham Co., CT by Rev. Stephen WILLIAMS. He married
second about Feb. 23, 1802, Preble, Cortland Co., NY Elizabeth CRAVATH
(b. Oct. 19, 1763, Harwinton, Litchfield Co., CT; d. Aug. 5, 1827,
Preble, Cortland Co., NY; bur. there in the Presbyterian Church
Cemetery), daughter of Samuel
CRAVATH (b. Jun. 7, 1735, Boston, Suffolk Co., MA; d. Dec. 26, 1820,
Preble, Cortland Co., NY) and Phebe AUSTIN (b. Feb. 20, 1741/2,
Wallingford, New Haven Co., CT; d. May 26, 1815, Phebe, Cortland Co.,
NY). Elijah and Elizabeth had been married
25 years 5 months and 12 days at her death. Elijah was married third on
Aug. 25, 1828, at Gainesville, Genessee Co., NY by Rev. Mr. BUEL, to
Electa (MURRAY) HEWETT FLOWER (b. Jan. 1, 1781, New Concord, NY; d.
Feb. 19, 1857, probably in Macomb Co., MI), daughter of Daniel MURRAY
(b. Jun. 9, 1753, Kent Litchfield Co., CT; d. Mar. 18, 1835, Pike,
Wyoming Co., NY) and Elizabeth RAYMOND (b. Sep. 24, 1755; d. May 1,
1840). Electa was the widow of Rodolphus Wheelock HEWETT and of Pearl
FLOWER (b. Feb. 6, 1785; d. Jan. 26, 1826). In May of 1853, Electa was
living at Armada, Macomb Co., MI. By her prior marriages, Electa was
the mother of Rodolphus Wheelock HEWETT, Jr., Norman Murray FLOWER,
Lorenzo Pearl FLOWER, Sophronia Elizabeth FLOWER, and stepmother of
Alanson FLOWER (son of Pearl FLOWER and his first wife).
Sarah 'Sally' CHILD - b. Feb. 18, 1752, Woodstock, Windham
Co., CT;
d. Nov. 19, 1800, Preble, Cortland Co., NY; bur. Presbyterian
Church Cemetery. Sarah was the mother of 8 children. Sarah's grave
marker is in lot 78 of what is now known as the Old
Cemetery at Preble, Cortland Co., NY. Daughter of Abijah
CHILD and Abigail JOHNSON.

YOUNG; Mary Elizabeth; and Charles F. S. married Emily.

BURDICK (b. 1809, NY; d. Jul. 1, 1885, Decorah, Winneshiek Co., IA).
Their children were born in PA, and the family
settled at Decorah, Winneshiek Co., IA by 1860. In 1860 Saloma T.
CRAVATH (age 20, school teacher) was living with Almira and Nelson;
most likely she was a relative of Almira's mother. Children of Almira
and Nelson BURDICK: Charles W. married Vallotta (or Violette); Nelson
B. married Morilla; Lt. Augustus Alvord married Eliza Jane GILBERT;
James Shelman married Effie; Capt. Theodore Weld married Nancy GRAVES;
and two other children.

IA; and in 1880, to West Andover, Ashtabula Co., OH. Married first Mar.
20, 1834, Gainesville, Wyoming Co., NY Almira E. ROWLEY [photo] (b. Aug. 22,
1814; d. Dec. 23, 1857, Conneaut, Crawford Co., PA). Almira was likely
the daughter of Norman and Olive
ROWLEY of Bennington, Wyoming Co., NY in 1860, who appear to have had a

a seamstress and
