Capt. Abraham and Mary (Hyde) Brown

Abraham BROWN - b. Aug. 26, 1671, Watertown, MA; d. Nov. 27, 1729, Watertown, MA; bur. at Watertown Burying Ground [photo], west of Watertown, MA. Son of Jonathan BROWNE and Mary SHATTUCK. Inherited family home at Watertown, to which he made 'new' additions to the older portion that his son Samuel occupied. Photos have been taken of the home, the neighboring Abraham Brown School, and the gravesites of Abraham, Lydia, and a number of their descendants. Held numerous town positions, including that of Town Treasurer, Assessor, Selectman, Town Clerk, and Captain of Militia. He was licensed as an innkeeper in 1709, and continued as such for 4 years. Appointed guardian in 1708 of the 17 year old Ephraim WILLIAMS, later Col. and father of the founder of Williams College.

Jan. 3, 1684/5, Watertown, MA) of Joseph HASTINGS and Martha SHEPARD, and gives Lydia's death as before Dec. 15, 1730 under the BROWN family, but gives births of her children to 1742 under the HASTINGS family. Bond gives the children of Lydia and Joseph HASTINGS as: Elizabeth; Lydia married Lt. Zechariah SMITH; Grace married Phineas WARREN; Joseph married Hannah HASTINGS; Eliphalet; Lucy married Moses WINSHIP; Josiah married Lydia BALL; Jonas married Mary BENJAMIN; Susannah married John CUTLER; Elizabeth married Jonathan CUTLER; Thankful married Elnathan ALLEN; Isaac died in infancy; and Lois married Elisha HOBBS. Hudson's History of Lexington identifies Joseph as the son (bap. Jul. 10, 1698, Lexington, MA) of John HASTINGS and Abigail HAMMOND, gives Lydia's death as noted above, and says they had seven children. Hudson says Joseph married second Jan. 16, 1769 Mrs. Sarah STEARNS (d. Mar. 23, 1783). Clarification is being sought.

Settled on 77 acres at Waltham, in the 'Trapelo' district, deeded to him from his father's estate. Married first Jan. 10, 1704/5, Watertown, MA Hannah PEASE; and second Dec. 11, 1718, Sarah BOND (b. May 30, 1690; d. Jun. 10, 1777), daughter of Col. Jonas BOND and Grace COOLIDGE.

Susannah 'Hannah' PEASE - bap. Feb. 21, 1685/6, Old South Church, Boston, Suffolk Co., MA; d. Mar. 18, 1717/8, Waltham, Middlesex Co., MA. Noted in marriage record as being 'of Cambridge.'  Daughter of Capt. Samuel PEASE of Boston, and of Mrs. Mary PEASE WHITTEMORE of Cambridge.

KER; and Jonathan died young.

In Apr 1736 he married Mary BALCH (b. about 1712; d. Apr. 29, 1782, New Ipswich, NH), daughter of Thomas BALCH and Mary PRENTISS/PRENTICE. As the widow Mary BROWN, she married second Nathan BROWN (d. Oct. 13, 1771) of Lincoln, MA (no known relation to her first husband). Mary died at the age of 69 at the New Ipswich, NH home of her son Aaron BROWN. Children of Isaac and Mary BROWN: Mary died in infancy; Isaac died in infancy; Mary died in infancy; Elizabeth died young; Eunice married Rev. David's signature (above) appears on his will,which was dated Oct. 21, 1801, filed Nov. 14, 1801, and proved Dec. 8, 1807, naming his wife and surviving children, including "my Daughter Huldah Morey." The inventory of the Estate of David BROWN was filed Jan. 18, 1802, totalling $4,266.65, including $3,000.00 in Real Estate. In addtion, there were 11 small notes from 20 years previous totalling $37.32. Married first Nov. 25, 1755, Waltham, Middlesex Co., MA; second May 20, 1779, Charlton, Worcester Co., MA Sarah LEATH (d. by 1797, Charlton, Worcester Co., MA), widow of Daniel DUGGAN/DUGGINS; and intentions for third marriage, to Prudence THOMPSON, were published Jul. 1, 1797. His widow, Prudence, was married second on Feb. 8, 1803 to Gilbert LINDLY.

Mary WELLS was daughter of Benjamin WELLS, with the heirs of Benjamin WELLS of Adams, Bershire Co., MA signing a Partition Deed on August 21, 1798 agreeing to abide by the will [North Bershire Registry of Deeds]. The agreement signers included Benjamin EDWARDS and Marcy, Jacob BROWN and Mary, and Elijah BROWN and Margery. Jacob was married second in 1806 at Stamford, Bennington Co., VT to Mary SOUTHWICK (b. Jul. 12, 1772; d. Feb. 26, 1851), daughter of Lawrence SOUTHWICK and Patience HANDY.
