George was appointed administrator of his father's estate in July 1888.

George was a farmer and businessman, having owned a meat market and general mercantile prior to 1906. He had been a mayor and councilman of Liscomb, IA, postmaster of Lee Center and clerk of Lee Twp., IL. George also lived for four years, after his retirement in 1914, in Eldora, IA, then returned to live at Liscomb. He was a member of the Masons, the I.O.O.F, and the Congregational church. His obituary indicates he was born at Earl's Mills, near Kalamazoo, MI.
