3. George MOREY (George2, George1). Born in 1634/1664. Died aft Jun 1725 in Bristol Co., RI, probably. Occupation: Weaver. Personal: Reportedly took Oath of Fidelity at Bristol, RI 1685. Ancestor.

The town of marriage for George and Hannah has been reported both as Bristol and as Warren. They were both baptized at the Bristol church on July 6, 1696. Their children, all born at Bristol, Bristol Co., RI, were baptized at the Church of Christ, Bristol, RI (formerly Bristol, MA until 1746).

George Morey was listed as an inhabitant of Bristol at the first town meeting, held September 1, 1681. Subsequently, he is listed as a juror in 1703, 1707 and 1713. He is recorded as 'of Bristol, County of Bristol, weaver', in a deed dated February 15, 1716/17. A deed from 'George Moorey', weaver, of Norton was signed June 24, 1718, and recorded in Taunton deeds. George 'Moreh' Senior, Norton, granted 'to my son George Morey Junior may dwelling house in Norton', December 4, 1718, and signed by his mark. This deed was subsequently acknowledged by him on June 29, 1725, the latest date found indicating he still lived.

Research: One unverified source adds the following child to family of George and Hannah (Lewis) Morey: Hannah, b. 6 Feb 1685/6. Sibling dates would permit this addition. If so, Hannah probably died between 1691 and 1693.

He married Hannah LEWIS, daughter of Thomas LEWIS (Jul 1633-26 Apr 1709) & Hannah BAKER (abt 1638-Jan 1717), on 22 Jan 1683 in Bristol, Plymouth Co., MA. Born in 1662 in Lynn, Essex Co., MA. Died in Dec 1717 in Bristol, Bristol Co., RI. Ancestor.

Hannah's father, Thomas Lewis was born in England in 1633, and died on April 26, 1709, at Bristol, RI. Hannah's mother, Hannah Baker, was born about 1638, at Lynn, MA, and died in January, 1717, at Bristol, RI. Thomas, son of Edmond, and Hannah, daughter of Edward and Joan, were married on November 11, 1659.

They had the following children:

Research: One source gives a birth date of Feb. 1, 1686/7. It may be that a first Hannah was born then and died young.

viii.  Benjamin. Born on 18 Apr 1705 in Lebanon, Windham Co., CT, probably. Christened on 17 Jun 1705 in Bristol, Bristol Co., RI.
