| Samuel Frederick may have been named for both his grandfathers. 1850 Census: 45th District, Harrison Co., IN Household 311, Family 311, Page 304 Samuel Rositer, age 42, miller, worth $2000, b. PA Mary Rositer, age 24, b. Ia Sarah Rositer, age 7, b. Ia Owen Miller, age 3, b. Ia [kinship, unstated, but see below*] Mary A. Rositer, age 4/12, b. Ia * The presence of Owen Miller, age 3, in the family and the 18 year difference in ages of Samuel and Mary suggest that Samuel and Mary may each have had a prior marriage, that Samuel's first wife (mother of Sarah) died between 1843 and 1848, that Mary's first husband was a Mr. Miller who died between 1847 and 1848, and that Mary A. was the first child of Samuel and Mary. The 1860 census shows Owen with the surname Rossiter, supporting this theory, but some confusion is added with Samuel's age given as 45 - was he really about 32 in 1850 or about 52 in 1860, with birth as early as 1808 or as late as 1818?
