I-Pariss Sims, 1750-1833.

II-8. William Sims, the sixth son and eighth child of Pariss and Keziah Royster Sims, was born about 1800-see Chapter Three. He came from North Carolina to Giles County, Tenn., with his parents in 1807; married a Carroll of Williamson County, Tenn., about 1827-8 and lived there for a time after which he moved with his family to Itawamba County, Miss., near Mantachie and Fulton, in the Tombigbee River area where his older brother, John Sims (II-7), had settled.

His second child and daughter, Mary Deborah, born in 1831, married Lang Walton of Williamson County and they moved from there to Mississippi in 1854, according to a grand-daughter, Maggie Walton Waldrep of Red Bay, Ala., with whom I had correspondence in 1964. She was then 82. Her grandmother, Mary Deborah Sims, died Aug. 27, 1923 at the age of 92. In a letter, written to me in January 1964, Mrs. Waldrep said:

"My grandmother, Mary Deborah Sims, was born May 22, 1831. She married Lang Walton and died August 17, 1923 . . . her mother was a Carroll . . . her sisters were Sarah Sims who married William Walton, Amanda Sims who married William Rogers, Malissa Sims who never married, and Elizabeth Sims who married John Sheffield one brother, William J. Sims, Uncle Billy, married Mary Ann Mobley. Other brothers were John and Washington L. Sims. John was never heard from after the Civil War. Washington was married twice but had no children . . . they are all buried near Mantachie in Itawamba County ... my grandmother's family came from Franklin, Tenn., (Williamson County) in 1854 ... I visited in the homes of all her sisters when I was a child and I remember Uncle Billy Sims (William J.) ... my husband is 88 and I am 82 . . ."

William Sims and his wife had eight children, the following record of which was given me, from the family Bible, by Josie Turner Sims, the second wife of Joseph E. Sims, a grandson:

III-460. Mary Deborah Sims, born May 22, 1831; married Lang Walton; died Aug. 17, 1923 at the age of 92. Children:

III-461. Amanda C. Sims, born Dec. 6, 1832; married William Rogers.
III-462. Melissa Sims, born Jan. 20, 1834; never married; died in 1915.
III-463. Washington L. Sims, born July 17, 1835; married twice but had no children.
III-464. William James (Billy) Sims, born April 22, 1838-- see record of family below.
III-465. John A. Sims, born Oct. 28, 1839. He was killed during the Civil War.
III-466. Elizabeth Sims, born April 21, 1841; married John Sheffield; died in 1903.

The William J. (Billy) Sims Family

William J. (Billy) Sims (464), born April 21, 1838; died April 14, 1908, was a farmer, a staunch Methodist and a soldier in the Civil War under Joseph E. Johnston. He married Mary Ann Mobley, Dec. 29, 1863. She died in 1918. They had the following children:

IV-467. Jemima Sims, born in September 1865; married J. W. Morris.
IV-468. Joseph Elbert Sims, born Feb. 13, 1867; died May 23, 1928. He was a merchant at Mantachie, Miss., and was married twice. His first wife was Nannie May Gaither; married Dec. 13, 1893. They had one son:

V-469. Yancy C. Sims, born Feb. 3, 1896; restaurant operator, West Memphis, Ark. He married Ethel Clark, April 18, 1916. Children:

VI-470. Nannie Mae Sims, born Feb. 1, 1917.
VI-471. Martha Lucile Sims, born Aug. 19, 1918.
VI-472. Howard Gaither Sims, born Aug. 20, 1920.
VI-473. Yancy Clark Sims, born Aug. 1, 1921.

VI-475. Charles Elbert Sims, born June 20, 1925.
VI-476. Tommy Joe Sims, born in 1927.

After the death of his first wife, Joseph E. Sims married Josie Turner, Aug. 28, 1912, a school teacher at Mantachie for 34 years. She was born April 25, 1882. They had three children:

V-477. Loyce E. Sims, born July 20, 1913; building contractor, New Orleans, La. He married Sylvia Romer in June 1934 and they have two sons:

VI-478. James Elbert Sims, born Oct. 5, 1947.
VI-479. Joseph Michael Sims, born Nov. 20, 1949.

V-480. Susie Mae Sims, born July 23, 1916; English teacher in the Itawamba Junior College, Fulton, Miss. She married Alvie Earnest, Dec. 23, 1933 and they have two children:

VI- Martha Elizabeth Earnest, born Aug. 22, 1938.

V-481. Steve Bernard Sims, born May 28, 1918. He married Bernice McFerrin in 1939 and they live in Memphis, Tenn., where he is connected with the International Harvester Co. They have two children:

VI-483. Steve Bernard Sims, Jr., born Jan. 25, 1942.

IV-484. Ella J. Sims, born in April 1869; died in 1904; unmarried.
IV-485. Deborah Sims, born in August 1870; married W. W. Morris in 1912.
IV-486. Manfridonia Sims, born April 1, 1872; died in 1953; married B. F. Patton, March 20, 1896 -- he died in 1952. Children:

V - Mary, Sally, Vera, Ameliza, Jessica, Lloyd Sims and Willie Ben Patton.

IV-487. John Bascom Sims, born Feb. 27, 1874; died Oct. 3, 1934; married Annie Bailey, July 21, 1907; had five children:

VI- James Wilton Roberts, born Aug. 6, 1928; died Oct. 2, 1934.

IV-503. Mary Lee Sims, born Nov. 26, 1877; married Andrew Judson Morris, Dec. 23, 1896. Children:
