Mr. Appleton was active in town affairs, selectman, 1895, 1896, 1897; representative, 1896, 1898; general manager and treasurer of The Dublin Electric Company, which was formed February 11, 1899, and continued in that capacity until September 1911, when the business was purchased by the Keene Gas and Electric Company; member of the Town History Committee, 1920.
In 1884 Mr. and Mrs. Appleton were initiated into the Order of the Patrons of Husbandry, and were also among those who organized the society known as Monadnock Grange, No. 103, of Dublin, N. H., being charter members.
Their's is one of the few farms in Dublin still inhabited by persons whose families are the living representatives of several generations of the same name who have lived on the same estate.

He married Lillian Gertrude Jones, daughter of Corydon Jones & Abigail Greedwood Piper, on 2 Nov 1879 in Dublin, N. H. Born Dublin, N. H., on 16 Oct 1857. Died Dublin, N. H., on 25 Apr 1932. Data from Mason. 

Mrs. Appleton united with the church, January 2, 1887. She was a member of the School Board 1892, 1893, 1894, 1898, 1899, 1900.
