Family of Emogene Mason (1413) & Elihu Lester Austin

Mrs. Blackshear received her education both in public and private schools, and early showed a decided musical talent. For two years she was solo soprano at the Congregational Church, Wallingford, Conn., then two years soloist at Trinity Episcopal Church, New Haven, the same Church in which her mother had sung in the choir twenty-eight years previous. Her professional work was confined almost exclusively to concert and recital work; she also taught singing at Bethany College, Topeka, Kans., in her studio, New York City, and at home. She is a member of Colonial Dames by right of descent through Capt. Hugh Mason, also a member of the D. A. R., Nathaniel Macon Chapter, and honorary life regent of this chapter, Daniel Mason being her Revolutionary ancestor.

She married Dr. Thomas Edward Blackshear Jr., son of Thomas Edward Blackshear & Olivia Ellison Bryan, on 24 Oct 1906 in New Haven, Conn. Born Leon Co., Fla., on November 11, 18?? Data from Mason.

Dr. Blackshear graduated Maryland Medical School, 1894, and did postgraduate (specialist, urologist) at Johns Hopkins, Baltimore, 1910-1911. He offered for service in Medical Reserve during World War, was refused because of a slight deafness, but served on Advisory Board eighteen months.

They had the following children:

Graduated Lanier High School, Macon, Ga., also Fannie A. Smith Kindergarten Training School, Bridgeport, Conn. Attended Teachers College, Columbia University, one summer term, and a double term at Mercer University Summer School, Macon. Miss Blackshear has taught in the public school system, Macon, three years, also in private kindergartens.

Mrs. Stilson graduated Vassar College, 1903. Taught Latin and Greek at Lakeville, Conn., and Albany, N. Y. Resided Waterbury, Conn., 1909-1916, then moved to Bridgeport, Conn., returning to teaching Latin in Fairfield, Conn., High School, where she still is (1933).

She married Minott Augur Osborn Stilson, son of Clarence Hoyt Stilson & Martha Pond Osborn, on 28 Apr 1900 in New Haven, Conn. Born New Haven, Conn., on 11 Oct 1877. Data from Mason.

They had one child:
i.  Minott Augur Osborn. Born Waterbury, Conn., on 20 Aug 1910. Unmarried: September 1932. Data from Mason.
Graduated Deerfield Academy, 1927, Yale Sheffield Scientific School, 1931, with honors, having made Sigma Psi honorary fraternity.
