1663. James Bracket Mason (John7, John6, Thaddeus5, Benjamin4, Joseph3, Joseph2, Hugh1). Born Lancaster, N. H., on 13 Jul 1839. Died aft 1912. Residence: Westmoreland, N. H. Data from Mason.

James B. Mason served in the Civil War, private, 14th N. H. Volunteers, and was promoted to 1st Lieutenant, 31st U. S. Colored Troops. He lost his right arm in the service, having been severely wounded in the mine explosion at St. Petersburg, Va., July 20, 1864.
Lieut. Mason graduated from Kimball Union Academy, Meriden, N. H., 1867, Dartmouth College, 1871, and attended Yale University Theological School, 1871, 1872. He served as a lay preacher in different places in Congregational and Second Advent Churches, but was not ordained, also taught school in Westmoreland and elsewhere.

He married Lydia Long, daughter of Samuel Long & Margaret Arnold, on 31 Mar 1874. Born Bloomington, Pa., on 24 Mar 1851. Data from Mason.

Mr. Mason taught in the academy at South Lancaster, Mass.
