Dr. Ayer graduated Harvard University and Harvard Medical School, also studied in Vienna and began practicing in 1875. He wrote a biography of his father and mentions the difference in the spelling of his maternal great-grandmother, Eunice (Ayres) Mason, and his own name, and that it is not thought that the Ayres and Ayers were related. Residence, Boston, Mass.

He married Mary Eliza Farwell, daughter of Nathaniel Whittemore Farwell & Eliza Fletcher, on 4 Apr 1877 in Boston, Mass. Born Waltham, Mass., on 6 Aug 1845. Died Boston, Mass., on 12 Feb 1915. Data from Mason.
