1136. Alonzo Mason (Joseph6, Joseph5, Benjamin4, Joseph3, Joseph2, Hugh1). Born Sullivan, N. H., on 21 Oct 1805. Died Fitchburg, Mass., on 6 Sep 1892. Residence: Sullivan, N. H., 1833 to nearly 1850, then Fitchburg, Mass. Data from Mason.

Alonzo Mason was a schoolmaster of merit, he also settled estates and handled much important business. Highway surveyor, 1835; hogreeve, 1836; selectman, 1837; grand juror, 1838; town clerk, 1840-1845; collector, 1843 (three years); school superintendent, 1844-1845. He played the copper bugle and also the fife in the old Militia Company.

He first married Arvilla Stone, daughter of Shubael Stone & Polly Rogers, on 2 Jul 1835 in Jaffrey, N. H. Born Marlborough, N. H., on 11 Jan 1812. Died Worcester, Mass., on 25 Jun 1862. Data from Mason.

They had the following children:

He second married Clarissa D. (Horton) Collins, on 8 Apr 1881. Born Killingly, Conn., in 1836. Data from Mason.

1137. Ashley Mason (Joseph6, Joseph5, Benjamin4, Joseph3, Joseph2, Hugh1). Born Sullivan, N. H., on 30 Jul 1807. Died Keene, N. H., on 4 Nov 1880. Residence: Sullivan and Keene, N. H. Data from Mason.

Ashley Mason was a farmer and active in town affairs serving on the Building Committee for the first schoolhouse built in District 1; hogreeve, 1832; highway surveyor, 1832, 1841, 1843, 1848, 1849, 1850, 1853, 1856, 1859, 1862, 1864. He was commissioned Ensign, April 12, 1833, and Lieutenant, April 10, 1835. The old Sullivan Company was originally the 8th (after 184 1, the 6th) Company of the 20th Regiment of the 5th Brigade of the 3d Division of New Hampshire Militia. He played a copper bugle in the old Militia Company.
September 26, 1831, he bought an undivided half of his father's homestead and the other half, August 28, 1840, giving his father the customary bond for his maintenance. He managed the farm for thirty-four years and sold it August 17, 1869, then moved to Keene, also moved the large part of his Sullivan house to Keene and rebuilt it.
He owned Pew 25 in the Third Meeting House.

He first married Jemima Fisk, daughter of Levi Fisk & Jemima Underwood, on 24 Nov 1831 in Keene, N. H. Born Holliston, Mass., on 14 Jun 1809. Died Sullivan, N. H., on 1 Feb 1835. Data from Mason.

He second married Roxanna Nims, daughter of Asahael Nims & Polly Heaton, on 2 Dec 1835 in Sullivan, N. H. Born Sullivan, N. H., on 9 Dec 1808. Died Keene, N. H., on 28 Jan 1890. Data from Mason.

1138. Sylvester Mason (Joseph6, Joseph5, Benjamin4, Joseph3, Joseph2, Hugh1). Born Sullivan, N. H., on 4 Sep 1810. Died South Gardner, Mass., on 13 Jan 1891. Data from Mason.

Sylvester Mason had turning mill at 52 in Sullivan, turning hoe handles and other articles. He operated this mill about five years from 1839. In 1839 he bought the site of 53 and built the house now standing there (1912). About 1844 he moved to Gardner, Mass. He played the fife in the old Militia Company.

He married Laurenza Felt, daughter of Joseph Felt & Relief Woods, on 24 Jun 1841 in Sullivan, N. H. Born Nelson, N. H., on 2 Nov 1817. Died South Gardner, Mass., on 21 Aug 1893. Data from Mason.

ii.  Joseph Vryling. Born Sullivan, N. H., on 31 Jan 1844. Died South Gardner, Mass., on 11 Oct 1863. Data from Mason.
He served in the Civil War, enlisting as a Private in Company G, 53rd Mass. Regt. Discharged September 2, 1863, on account of ill health.


1139. Ruth Mason (Joseph6, Joseph5, Benjamin4, Joseph3, Joseph2, Hugh1). Born Sullivan, N. H., on 30 Jun 1815. Residence: Sullivan and Keene, N. H. Data from Mason.

She married Dauphin White Wilson, son of John Wilson & Betsey Nims, on 3 Nov 1836 in Sullivan, N. H. Married by Rev. Joel Wright. Born Sullivan, N. H., on 18 Aug 1810. Data from Mason.

They had one child:
i.  Son. Born Sullivan, N. H., on 12 Aug 1837. Died Sullivan, N. H., on 14 Aug 1837. Data from Mason.
