Mr. Mason served in the Civil War enlisting in 1863 as a private in the 7th Maine Battery. He spent most of the time in Virginia and participated in the Battles of the Wilderness, Cold Harbor, Petersburg and Spottsylvania, besides may smaller engagements. At Petersburg he was wounded and for two months was in the hospital at Washington, D. C. At the end of the war he returned to Mason and became actively engaged in farming. He was a member of Pleasant Valley Grange of West Bethel, and a charter member of Grand Army of the Republic, G. Brown Post, No. 84.

He married Susanna Burbank Watson (917) , daughter of Daniel Watson Jr. (27 Oct 1797-17 Jun 1851) & Lydia Knapp Clark (487) (25 Jun 1798-5 Oct 1883), on 2 Jan 1861 in Norway, Maine. Born Norway, Maine, on 26 Dec 1833. Died Mason, Maine, on 20 Jan 1879. Data from Mason.
