Dr. Ayer graduated Maine Medical School, 1844, M.D., was a member of the Massachusetts Medical Society, secretary of the Barnstable District Medical Society, member of Boston School Committee, 1847-1848, chosen councillor of Massachusetts Medical Society, May 1851, and reelected thirty-eight successive years, and consulting physician of the City of Boston, 1854-1860 inclusive.

He first married Martha Bourne, daughter of Benjamin Bourne & Lucinda Bourne, on 9 Nov 1843 in Boston, Mass. Born Sandwich, Mass., on 14 Jul 1822. Died Boston, Mass., on 29 Sep 1855. Data from Mason.
