804. William Mason Holton (Betsey Mason6, Daniel5, Samuel4, Daniel3, John2, Hugh1). Born Westminster, Vt., on 15 Jul 1827. Residence: New Harmony, Ind. Data from Mason.

March 1, 1849, William M. Holton commenced the study of medicine with Dr. Leonard T. Ferris, and attended lectures at the College of Physicians and Surgeons, New York City, as a student of Prof. Willard Parker, graduating March 11, 1852, M.D.
Dr. Holton served in the Civil War enlisting October 25, 1861, as a private, commissioned November 18, 1861, 2nd Lieut., Co. B, 10th Regt., Ind. Vol. lnf., transferred to 25th Ind. Vol. Inf., as Asst. Surgeon, date of commission, April 25, 1862, joined the regiment at Pittsburgh Landing, and was at the Siege of Corinth, Miss. After the evacuation he became ill and resigned August 20, 1862. He was a member of Tri-State Medical Society and the Indiana State and Posey County Society.

He first married Caroline Emily Cuyler, on 14 Mar 1853 in New York City, N. Y. Born Essex, N. Y., on 28 Dec 1833. Died New Harmony, Ind., on 8 Mar 1873. Data from Mason.
