She first married Capt. Joshua Poland, son of Joseph Poland & Hannah Lewis, on 4 Dec 1817 in Portland, Maine. Born Beverly, Mass., on 7 Apr 1791. Died lost at sea, 1819-1820. Residence: Of North Yarmouth, Maine. Data from Mason. 

Extract from Pension Record: Joseph Poland, Widow-Hannah. "Hannah testified that the knowledge of Joseph's death was very imperfect, as he died away from home, viz.: at Washington when he went from the Port in Boston, at which time he told her they had orders so to do. Her first knowledge of his death was obtained from her son, Joshua, after his return from Dartmouth Prison in England. While there a fellow prisoner from the States told Joshua that Joseph Poland died but a short time before at Washington, and a short time before his death sent $95.00 to his wife and asked whether she had received it. Her son, Joshua, had sailed from Portland 17 years ago last September and had not been heard from since." This is dated August 1, 1837, making it 1819 or 1820 that Joshua was lost.
Capt. Joshua Poland, a native of Cape Ann, Mass., died New York City, November 23, 1818. This notice is taken from the New York Evening Post.
