He first married Elizabeth Davis, daughter of Capt. John Davis & Mary Colby, on 1 Oct 1835 in Chelsea, Mass. Born Boston, Mass., in 1814. Died Chelsea, Mass., on 17 Feb 1848. Data from Mason.

SML Note: The Chelsea, MA Marriage Register for Robert and Elizabeth gives Robert's age as 47, birthplace as "Chelsea" and parents as "Joseph & Ellen Calder"  and Elizabeth's age as 30 birthplace as "St. Albans Me." and parents as "David & Catherine Ross". Note that with the death of his parents while he was still a child, Robert may have given his foster parents names with the clerk adding the Calder surname. [added 3/15/11]
