Joseph Mason was educated at the Academy of Chesterfield, N. H., became a schoolmaster, and as such he gained an enviable reputation, teaching in the district schools.
In the summer he was a farmer and stood among the first in the orderly manner in which he conducted his business and the neatness about his premises. He had a place for everything and everything in its place, and in time purchased the Capt. Flint farm from his uncle, Elijah Mason. After his parents became infirm he helped them and also became a foster father to all his brothers and sisters. His great desire was to have his children well educated, and his religious sentiments were deep and strong. He and his wife were admitted to the church 1829.
He was also interested in town affairs, member of the school committee 1822, 1828, 1839, selectman 1836, appointed justice of the peace December 1836.

Martin Mason received his early education at Chester, Vt., Chesterfield, N. H., and Alstead, N. H. He studied medicine and graduated from Castleton, Vt., Medical School, M.D., 1826. He settled first in Easton, Washington Co., and in 1831 in Gaines, Orleans Co., N. Y., also practiced in both Troy and Albany, N. Y. Was president of the Orleans County Medical Society, justice of the peace, 1830, in politics a Republican, and a member of the Baptist Church. In 1847 be moved to Charleston, Mich. Residence, Augusta, Mich.

Josiah F. Mason was a clergyman. He was educated at the Academy in Alstead, N. H. In 1825 he went to Rochester, N. Y., by stagecoach, and for four years was interested in the lumber business. In 1829 he moved to Orleans, N. Y., and in 1843 was ordained preacher in the Methodist Episcopal Church, was also a deacon and elder. Later he moved to Burt Co., Neb. He was probate judge of that County for six years. Superintendent of schools and justice of the peace, and assessor.

Rufus P. Mason was inspector of schools and town clerk, Northampton, Mich., 1847. He bad one of the first stores in Chesening, in which the post office was located, there he was highway commissioner for twenty years, justice of the peace four years, town clerk ten years, first president of the village, and secretary of Farmers' Mutual Fire Insurance Co., of Sagamore Co. He and his wife were Presbyterians, but joined the Methodist Episcopal Church, as that was the only denomination in Chesening holding services. In politics a Republican, later he changed to a Prohibitionist.
His father-in-law was the first U. S. Marshal of Easton Dist., Pa., afterward founded a bank in New York City and was its president for four years, later founded the Atlantic Bank in the same city and remained its president until his death.
