Family of Elijah Mason (192) & Hannah Bond

388. Elijah Mason Jr. (Elijah5, Samuel4, Daniel3, John2, Hugh1). Born Ashburnham, Mass., on 23 Oct 1791. Died Surry, N. H., on 25 Dec 1880. Data from Mason.

Elijah Mason Jr. moved to Surry 1826 and settled at No. 214, where he resided until the spring of 1835 when he bought No. 217, where he died, the farm falling to his son, Elijah Bond Mason, and at his death, his son, Frank E. B. Mason, took the old homestead. He and his sons were all short, stocky men of more than usual physical strength.

He first married Mary Allen, daughter of Abel Allen Jr. & Susannah Wilbur, on 19 May 1825 in Surry, N. H. Born Surry, N. H., on 4 Jun 1791. Died Surry, N. H., on 28 Jun 1843. Data from Mason.

They had the following children:

Mr. Mason was a great reader, and with old axes cut the bow and arrow on several boulders on his brother's farm in Surry. According to the family the bow and arrow on the rock on "Arrow Hill" is his handiwork.

Allen P. Mason entered the office of the New Hampshire Sentinel when a young man and learned the printer's trade, then went to Boston, subsequently to Georgia where he continued in the printing business until the outbreak of the Civil War, when he returned to Massachusetts. August 6, 1862, he enlisted in Co. K, 1st Mass. Infantry, reenlisted in 11th Mass. Regt. and served until the close of the war. He was promoted to 2nd Lieut. and for bravery in action, to Captain of Co. C, 11th Mass. Regt., and was wounded twice during service. Owing to his remarkable physical condition during the war he was christened "Old Tough and Healthy."

He married Margaret (Barry) Driscoll, daughter of John (Barry) Driscoll & Margaret. Data from Mason.

He second married Fanny Aldrich, on 1 Jan 1845. Born on 29 Aug 1800. Data from Mason.

389. Samuel Mason (Elijah5, Samuel4, Daniel3, John2, Hugh1). Born Walpole, N. H., on 6 Aug 1800. Died Walpole, N. H., on 6 Jun 1837. Residence: Walpole, N. H.. Data from Mason.

His children were living at Surry, N. H., when the 1850 census was taken, and the dates of their birth were taken from that census so they may vary a bit.

He married Fanny Aldrich, on 28 Nov 1822 in Westmoreland, N. H. Born on 29 Aug 1800. Data from Mason.
