"Thomas Mason, list dated Cambridge, May 11, 1776, of men who served as guards to prevent the rescue of prisoners; also receipt given to Capt. John Walton, dated Cambridge, September 28, 1776, signed by said Mason, for bounty to go to Horse Neck; also, Private, Capt. John Walton's co. Col. Brooks' Regt.; enlisted September 27, 1776; discharged November 16, 1776; service, 2 mos. 1 day, including 11 days (223 miles) travel home; roll dated North Castle; also Capt. John Walton's co.; enlisted December 9, 1776, discharged December 21, 1776; service, 12 days; company detached for service at Noddle's Island; also company receipt given to Capt. John Walton, dated Cambridge, May 9, 1777, for wages and rations for service at Noddle's Island in December 1776; also list of men attached to a warrant from Capt. John Walton to Sergt. Joseph Bates, dated August 4, 1777, directing him in consequence of orders received from Col. Thatcher to warn the train band of said Walton's co. to be ready at a moment's notice to march with 6 days provisions, and to make returns of the deficiencies of equipments; also, order dated Cambridge, September 23, 1778, signed by Capt. John Walton, directing Sergt. James Fillebrown to detach said Mason and others -from his company to join Capt. Thomas Mason was a housewright, also active in town affairs serving as selectman 1802, 1811, 1812, 1813, 1814, assessor 1808, 1813, 1815, listed as a voter, 1822. His will is on record at Middlesex Probate Office.

He first married Lydia Dane, daughter of John Dane & Abigail Pool, on 10 Jan 1784 in Gloucester, Mass. Born Gloucester, Mass., on 18 May 1757. Died Cambridge, Mass., on 27 May 1791. Data from Mason.

"Josiah Mason Jr., Order dated Cambridge, October 30, 1778, signed by Capt. John Walton, directing Serg't James Fillebrown to notify said Mason and others to appear the following day at Cambridge with 3 days' provisions, armed and equipped to march to Boston to serve under Gen. Heath until November 9, 1778, unless sooner discharged in accordance with orders received from Col. Thatcher." (Reference, Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors in the Revolution, Vol. X, page 323.)
May 19, 1802, Vose and Makepeace conveyed to Josiah Mason Jr., a right to "use the Canal which is to be made" where Broad Canal now is. By an Act passed June 15, 1805, Josiah Mason Jr., and Daniel Mason were constituted and made a corporation and body politic, by the name of the Cambridgeport, Mass., Meetinghouse Corp., for the purpose of building a meeting house and supporting public worship therein in the easterly part of Cambridge. He was an owner in the "Hundred Share Estate" having four shares. Representative 1807, selectman 1808, and overseer of the poor. He was a housewright and merchant and later carried on a lumber wharf at Cambridge.

He married Lois Russell, on 18 Jul 1784 in Cambridge, Mass. Married by T. Hilliard. Born Cambridge, Mass., on 30 Apr 1760. Died Cambridge, Mass., on 17 Apr 1847. Data from Mason.

When eleven years of age she worked a sampler, first the alphabet, then the numbers from 1 to 6, next her name, age and year. Then these words"

Lie mouldering in the Clay?"
It is now (1933) in the possession of her great-niece, Mrs. Henry J. Barnes of Boston, Mass.

She was to be married, the minister and guests were there, when she wa suddenly taken ill and died, from having eaten some crispy baked beans of which she was very fond. Mrs. Henry J. Barnes has a very lovely picture of Louisa Mason, painted on glass.

John Mason settled first at Townsend, Mass., but in 1793 moved to Gloucester, and for a time was employed as master of the workhouse, next engaged in tavern keeping. He was possessed of considerable mathematical talent so his services as a surveyor were often sought, and his most important work in this line was a correct map of the town which he published. He also made himself useful by his general knowledge of municipal affairs and served as selectman 1813-1815. A strong will and great independence were striking traits in his character.

He first married Tryphena Shipley, daughter of Jonathan Shipley & Abigail Blood, in Dec 1792 in Pepperell, Mass. Born Pepperell, Mass., on 23 Aug 1768. Died Gloucester, Mass., on 20 Feb 1834. Data from Mason.

Samuel Mason was a housewright and his name was on the 1822 voting list. Killed by a fall.

He married Mary Spear Harlow, daughter of Asaph Harlow & Phebe, on 15 May 1803 in Cambridge, Mass. Married by A. Holmes. Born Boston, Mass., in 1785. Died Cambridge, Mass., on 15 Jan 1859. Data from Mason.
