247. Maj. Thomas Hovey (Mary Mason4, Joseph3, Joseph2, Hugh1). Born Newton, Mass., on 14 Aug 1740. Died Brighton, Mass., on 8 May 1807. Residence: Netwon, Cambridge, Roxbury, Lunenburg and Brighton, all in Massachusetts. Served in the Revolutionary War. Data from Mason.

Thomas Hovey served as a major drummer and participated in the Battle of Bunker Hill. He was a schoolmaster in Brighton for about twenty winters, and also in Watertown and Newton.

He married Elizabeth Brown, daughter of Joseph Brown, on 21 Apr 1763. Born in 1747. Died Rutland, Mass., on 14 Jan 1821. Data from Mason.

Supposed to have perished in the fire that destroyed the Richmond, Va., theater, in 1811.
