Killed in the Battle of Monmouth.
Edmund Munroe bore title of Ensign in Rogers' Rangers, Lieutenant in French and Indian War and Captain in the Revolutionary War. He distinguished himself at the capture of Burgoyne and was presented with a pair of candlesticks from the General's baggage. Bond's Info: Edmund, b. Feb. 2, 1735-6, m., Aug. 31, 1768, Rebecca Harrington. [Harrington, *39.] He was an officer in the French War, was a Captain in the Revolution, and was killed in the Battle of Monmouth. His youngest child, Edmund, b. 1775, is now (1853) the oldest printer in Boston.

He married Rebekah Harrington, daughter of Jonathan Harrington & Abigail Moore, on 31 Aug 1769 in Lexington, Mass. Born Lexington, Mass., on 17 Feb 1751. Died West Cambridge, Mass., on 6 Mar 1834. Data from Mason.

Bond's Info: Sarah, b. May 1, 1738; m., Dec. 2, 1762, William Tidd. It is probable that she d. soon, and that he m. (2d), Jan. 9, 1766, Ruth, dr. of Ensign Robert and Anna (Stone) Munroe.

She married Lt. Joseph Tidd Jr., son of Joseph Tidd & Dorothy Stickney, on 7 Dec 1762 in Lexington, Mass. Born Lexington, Mass., on 11 May 1734. Died New Braintree, Mass., on 12 Jul 1815. Data from Mason.

Bond's Info: Major JOSEPH BOWMAN (b. Feb. 18, 1740-1, 3d child of Capt. Thaddeus and Sarah (Loring) Bowman, of Lex.), m. in Lex., Nov. 22, 1764, KATHERINE MUNROE, b. Sept. 29 1740, dr. of William, Jr., and Sarah (Mason) Munroe, of Lex. [See Mason, *18: and Locke fam., p. 308 and 9.] Soon after m., he moved to New Braintree, Mass. He was ensign of a company of 50 minute men, from the small town of New Braintree, who marched to Boston, upon the report of the Battle of Lexington. He soon after joined the army, and commanded a battalion at the Battle of Bennington, and other battles, which resulted in the capture of Burgoyne. He was in actual service one year, and afterwards muster master or recruiting officer. He d. Jan. 3, 1818, aged 76 y. 10 m. 7 d, and his wid. d. Ap. 30, 1824, aged 83 y. 6 m. 24 d.

185. William Munroe III (Sarah Mason4, John3, John2, Hugh1). Born Lexington, Mass., on 28 Oct 1742. Died Lexington, Mass., in May 1827. Residence: Lexington, Mass. Served in the Revolutionary War. Data from Mason.

William Munroe III was orderly sergeant of Capt. Parker's Co., commanded the guard for Hancock and Adams at the Clarke house on the night of April 18, 1775, and in the early morning took them to a place of safety returning in time to form the line of Minute Men on Lexington Green. Lieutenant in Northern Army at the capture of Burgoyne, and later, as Colonel of Militia, marched toward Springfield, Mass., to assist in quelling Shay's Rebellion. He was active in town affairs, selectman, nine years, representative to the General Court, two years, proprietor of Munroe's Tavern from 1771 until his death, and there entertained George Washington in 1789.
