176. Dr. Ebenezer Mason (Jonas4, John3, John2, Hugh1). Born North Yarmouth, Maine, on 1 Nov 1732. Died New Gloucester, Maine, in June 3 or 10, 1816. Residence: New Gloucester, Maine. Data from Mason.

Dr. Mason and his first wife were received into the First Congregational Church, North Yarmouth, by public profession, June 30, 1757, and were dismissed to First Church, New Gloucester, October 13, 1765. In 1759 his name was on the North Yarmouth tax list. On the Cumberland County Records he is listed "bought land in New Gloucester, June 19, 1777, from Ebenezer Collins," also "sold land in New Gloucester, May 4, 1795 to Ezekiel Glass." Descendants of all the children are eligible for membership in Daughters or Sons of the American Revolution through their father, who served in the Revolution.

March 23, 1778, Dr. Mason was voted a member of the Committee of Safety at New Gloucester.

SML Comment: The military service in Capt. Isaac Parson's Company is not for Dr. Ebenezer MASON, but rather for his namesake son. However, Dr. Ebenezer Mason's Committee of Safety membership should qualify all his descendants for the DAR or SAR membership.

He first married Rebekah Winslow, daughter of Barnabas Winslow & Mercy Glass, on 13 Jan 1756 in North Yarmouth, Maine. Born North Yarmouth, Maine, on 9 Mar 1735. Baptized on 23 May 1742. Died on 17 Sep 1769. Data from Mason.

John Mason was listed on the North yarmouth tax list 1759, was licensed there to sell tea, coffee and china 1762-1763, was received into the Church September 2, 1764, and recorded as having "bought land in North Yarmouth, October 22, 1765."

Capt. Mason was a farmer and sea captain. Collector of customs for three years, his first commission was from King George III. After the Revolution he was recommissioned to the same office by President George Washington. He was also selectmen; his name on the North Yarmouth tax list, 1823, an owned Pew No. 2, in the Old Meeting House, built in 1729.
"Samuel Mason, Private, Capt. george Rogers' co.; service 5 days, company detached from 2nd, Cumberland Co. Reg't., by order of Col. Jonathan Mitchell to work on the fort at Falmouth in November 1775." (Reference, Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors in the Revolution, Vol. X, page 333.)
Samuel Mason, report signed and attested by said Mason, clerk of a meeting of the 1st Co. of Militia in North Yarmouth, of which Col. Jonathan Mitchell was moderator, held for the purpose of "choosing a 2nd Lieutenant, in the room of Levi Loring, who had removed out of said Company," June 10, 1776. (Reference, Vo. X, page 333.)
