Family of Lieut. John Mason (4) & Elizabeth Hammond

21. Ens. John Mason Jr. (John2, Hugh1). Born Newton, Mass., on 22 Jan 1676. Died Lexington, Mass., on 24 Mar 1738. Data from Mason.

John was active in town affairs being assessor, 2702, 1719, 1721, 1723, 1725, 1730, 1731, a subscriber for the Purchase of the common, 1711, constable, 1713, town clerk, 1729, 1731, 1734, 1735, 1736, selectman, 1729, 1731, 1734, 1736, justice of the peace and bore title of Ensign in the Massachusetts Militia. He served in the French and Indian War in Capt. Benjamin A. Reed's Co.
In seating the meeting house in 1699 he was "past in ye second seat in ye gallarye," and he and his wife were admitted to the Church December 19, 1708.
He settled at Cambridge Farms, now Lexington and resided on Main Street, a little below the old Munroe Tavern, hence the name of "Mason's Hollow."
