Bond's Info: HANNAH, b. Sept. 23, 1636; m., Oct. 17, 1653, Capt. JOSHUA BROOKS,* Of Concord (eldest son of Capt. Thomas Brooks, first of Wat., and afterwards of Concord), by whom she bad 10 chil., and numerous descendants. Her eldest child, Hannah, m., Jan. 15, 1677-8, Benjamin Peirce, of Wat. She married Capt. Joshua Brooks, son of Capt. Thomas Brooks & Grace, on 17 Oct 1653 in Watertown, Mass. Born Concord, Mass., bef 1632. Data from Mason.

Capt. Brooks was a tanner and settled in that part of Concord which later became Lincoln. He was made Freeman May 26, 1692.

Bond's Info: JOSHUA, m., October 17,1653, HANNAH MASON. [Mason, 2.] He was a tanner, and lived in that part of Concord, which became a part of Lincoln, where his descendants have been very numerous. Vol. II: Dea. JOSHUA BROOKS, a tanner, m. in Wat., Oct. 17, 1653, HANNAH MASON, dr. of Capt. Hugh Mason. [Mason 2.] He settled in that south part of Concord which became a part of Lincoln, and, it is supposed, sold his paternal estate in Medford to his brother Caleb. It is conjectured that he learned his trade of Capt. Mason, and, soon after, married his daughter. He was adm. freeman May 26, 1652.

3. Mary Mason (Hugh1). Born Watertown, Mass., on 17 Dec 1640. Residence: Concord and Sudbury, Mass. Data from Mason.

She married Rev. Joseph Estabrook, on 20 May 1668 in Watertown, Mass. Born Enfield, Middlesex, England, abt 1640. Died Concord, Mass., on 16 Sep 1711. Data from Mason.

The pioneer Estabrooks were Puritans, and with his brother, Thomas, came to America in 1660. It is said that there was another brother with Joseph and Thomas Estabrook who settled in Connecticut.
After receiving a preparatory education for College Joseph Estabrook entered Harvard and graduated 1664. In 1667 he was ordained as colleague of the Rev. Edward Bulkley, minister of the church in Concord, at whose decease he became pastor of the church and continued in that office until his death, for which he was eminently fitted as his preaching was plain, practical and persuasive. His appearance carried so much patriotic dignity that people were induced to love him as a friend and reverence him as a father. These traits in his character obtained for him the name of "The Apostle." He was made freeman, Cambridge, Mass., May 3, 1663.

4. Lieut. John Mason (Hugh1). Born Watertown, Mass., on 1 Jan 1644. Died Newton, Mass., on 22 Feb 1730. Data from Mason.

John Mason was a soldier in King Philip's War, 1675, and served in the first or Mt. Hope Campaign under Capt. Prentice, also served under Capt. Thomas Brattle, and in November 1675 and January 1676 was at the Garrison, Wrentham, Mass. He was also active in Town affairs being one of the Signers of the Secession Petition of 1678, Highway Surveyor and Hogreeve, 1678, Constable at Cambridge Village, 1679, selectman, 1689, 1690, 1691, 1692, 1293, bore title of Lieutenant in the Massachusetts Militia, made freeman, 1690, and one of a committee "to see if it be necessary to have a highway to Concord Road," 1704. He was a tanner and settled at Cambridge Village, now Newton, Mass.

Bond's Info: JOHN, b. Jan. 1, 1644-5; a tanner, of Newton; m. ELIZABETH HAMMOND. [9.] She d. Nov. 13, 1715, and he d. about 1730. Vol. II: Wife Elizabeth d. 1714.

He married Elizabeth Hammond, daughter of Lieut. John Hammond & Abigail Salter, in 1675. Born Watertown, Mass., on 6 May 1655. Died Newton, Mass., on 14 Oct 1714. Data from Mason.

Joseph Mason was a tanner, also active in town affairs, highway surveyor 1680-1698, tythingman 1685, constable 1687, 1688, 1689. He was admitted to the Church of Christ in Watertown, March 27, 2687, and is listed as having contributed "ten dollars toward mending the Meeting House."

6. Sarah Mason (Hugh1). Born Watertown, Mass., on 25 Sep 1651. Residence: Muddy River, Now Brookline, Mass. Data from Mason.

"Sarah, wife of Andrew Gardner, received to full communion with good acceptan, blessed be the Lord," October 13, 1678.

Bond's Info: SARAH, b. Sept. 25, 1651: m., May 20, 1668, Capt. ANDREW GARDNER, Of Muddy River (Brookline), which he represented in 1689. He was lost in the expedition to Canada in 1690. His son Andrew grad. Harv. Coll., 1696; was minister of Lancaster, where he d. (accidentally shot), Oct. 20, 1704.

She married Capt. Andrew Gardner, son of Thomas Gardner & Lucy Smith, on 20 May 1668 in Watertown, Mass. Born Roxbury, Mass., on 5 Mar 1642. Died Canada in 1690. Data from Mason.

"Andrew Gardner confessed Christ and was received to full Communion with good acceptan" July 11, 1678. He was active in town affairs, serving as constable, 1681, 1682; appointed Ensign of the South Company, November 19, 1685; representative, 1689. He served in the French and Indian War, bore title of Captain and went in Sir William Phipps' Expedition aginst Quebec, 1690, in which he was lost.
Capt. Gardner died intestate, and April 16, 1694, an inventory of his estate was taken by John Gore, John White and Thomas Gardner; later "Administration is granted April 5, 1695 to Sarah Gardner, widow of Andrew Gardner, yeoman, late of Muddy River, deceased, on her said husband's estate," and November 5, 1696 Sarah Gardner, widow and administratrix, presented an account of selling land.
"Division of house and lands of Andrew Gardner made September 26, 1702, by order of Court, by Lieut. Thomas Gardner, Josephy Buckminster, Solomon Phipps, Joseph Gardner and Samuel Aspinwall of Muddy River." In the Suffolk Registry of Probate it names his heirs as "We, Andrew Gardner of Muddy River, Gent., John Seaver of Muddy River, husbandman, John Wyllis of Medford, mason, Lucy Gardner of Muddy River, Spinster, John Mason of Newton, Tanner, on behald of Abigail and Thomas Gardner, Minors, children of Andrew Gardner, Yeoman, deceased. Fifth April 1696."
"Set forth and alloted unto his several children, namely Andrew Gardner, Sarah, wife of John Seaver, Ester, wife of John Wyllis, Lucy Gardner, Abigail Gardner, Thomas Gardner, September 7, 1702."

Andrew Gardner Jr. graduated Harvard College, 1696, and began preaching at Lancaster, May 1701, and was soon to be ordained when he was killed. Shot by a soldier who was guarding the place for Indians and who mistook him for the enemy.

He married Mary Swan, on 12 Nov 1702 in Roxbury, Mass. Born in 1681. Died Lancaster, Mass., on 9 Mar 1717. Data from Mason.
