Samuel's two sons, Samuel (aab) and Jedediah (aac) have interesting and lengthy wills, showing great prosperity and generosity, but the most arresting item, considering the popular notion of President Abraham Lincoln's (adaaa db) insignificant background, is found in the will of Mordecai (ad), ancestor of Abraham Lincoln, who was born Jan. 14, 1657 at Scituate, Mass., and died Nov. 28, 1727, and who was the uncle of Mary (aad), Samuel (aab), and Jedediah (aac), who, after disposing of considerable property to various of his family, says, "If either my son Isaac, my son-in-law Ambrose Cole, or Daniel Tower shall bring up in learning or liberal education, either of their sons or each of them a son which they now have, I allow toward his or their learning £40 to each or everyone of the three which may be so educated, to be paid by my executors £10 to them yearly during the four years they may remain at college."
