Carson - Green Ancestry Chart and Ahnentafel

From the files of Stephen M. Lawson

Mary CARSON was the wife of Cana VanBuren FREEMAN, and the Mother of his children. Buren was the second child of George Romulus FREEMAN and Susanna CARPENTER. Many photos of this Freeman branch are in the Family Album. Mary CARSON was the daughter of Montgomery Morgan CARSON (b. about 1857, Rutherford Co., NC; d. about 1888, possibly at Columbia, SC) and Johnnie Maria GREEN (b. 10 Oct 1868, NC; d. 29 Dec 1946, Denver, CO). The Carson-Green Ancestry Chart and Ahnentafel are based on information gathered from publications, cousins and the internet. The initial review and analysis of available information on the Carson ancestry was done in 2001.

The will of John Carson, 20 July 1789, was published in the May 2003 issue of the BULLETIN of the Genealogical Society of Old Tryon County, pages 86-87, and in included following the Ahnentafel.

Much of the CANSLER ancestry information was abstracted directly or indirectly from The Cansler Family in America: The Ancestors and Descendants of Philip W. Gentzler of North Carolina, ©2001 by William Clifford Roberts, Jr. (Gateway Press, Inc., Baltimore, MD). [Purchase information]

Carson - Green Ahnentafel

Since it would be wrong to assume everyone knows the Ahnentafel format, a brief description will be given. The beginning person, for whom the table of ancestors is created, is assigned a number - conveniently the number 1. That person's father is person 2 and the mother is person 3. This continues throughout the table, with each person's number being doubled to obtain the person's father's number, and 1 is added to the father's number to obtain the mother's number. Hence, if a person has the number 17 before the name, we know that the person is female (odd number greater than 1), that her father is number 34 (2 X 17), her mother is 35 (34 + 1), and that her child in the ancestral line is number 8 (integer of 17/2). The Ahnentafel presented is an expanded format, showing all known children of each couple, with the child in the line being considered having the Ahnentafel number given (which will always be one-half of the father's number).

Ahnentafel for Mary (Carson) Freeman - 2 Aug 2004

[The tilde (~) before a date means "about" - a more or less educated guess, often based on census age.]
