First Families of the Twin Territories
An Invitation to Descendants of the Early Settlers of Oklahoma
First Families of the Twin Territories, a nonprofit adjunct organization under the jurisdiction of the Oklahoma Genealogical Society, was founded to recognize, honor and perpetuate the memory of early Pioneer and Indian families who were residents of Oklahoma or Indian Territory on or before the date of Statehood.
If you can prove each generation of your
direct lineage back to an individual who settled in one
of Oklahoma's twin territories on or before 16 November 1907,
you are eligible for membership in First Families of the Twin
Territories. When approved, you will receive a certificate
suitable for framing and a lapel pin you will wear proudly.
You are invited to complete an Application for Membership to be submitted with pertinent documents and your check. The application fee represents a one-time payment for a lifetime membership in First Families of the Twin Territories. If you have additional ancestors who were early Oklahoma settlers, supplemental applications may be submitted for a lesser fee.
Your children or other family members who desire certificates on the same ancestors may submit separate completed applications, provide documentation and pay the appropriate fees. Collateral lines through brothers or sisters of your ancestor are not accepted as qualification for membership in First Families of the Twin Territories.
As a genealogical organization, we encourage credible genealogical research and require copies of original documents as proof of lineage. These include birth, marriage and death records, census records, probate and deed records. Substitute proof may be accepted, such as bible records, obituaries, tombstone incriptions, notarized affidavits of living relatives, batismal records, etc.
Sources for some of these records are county courthouses for marriage, deed and probate records; the State Departments of Health for birth and death records; and local libraries and historical societies for lacal and county records, cemetery information, city directories, etc. The Oklahoma Historical Society has copies of census records, state newspapers (from earliest published to present day), indexes to homestead applications, Indian emigration rolls, and many other early day Oklahoma Territory and Indian Territory records.
