"The study of genealogy and historical studies are each a branch of the same science. And one compliments the other. That's why Itawamba Settlers not only contains genealogical abstracts, but articles relating to Itawamba County history as well. Mere dates, names and figures can become bland and uninteresting. It may be a fact that a researcher's ancestor came to Itawamba County in 1839. But a good researcher needs to ask such questions as: Why did their ancestor come here? How did they come here? Where did they settle? What were their ancestors' lifestyle? How did they live? A genealogical researcher can learn why their ancestors' did what they did , by researching their environment, and this is why the society adds historical articles to the genealogical content of the magazine."
