She was married to Edwin Morey at Amboy, Ill., on April 10, 1849, the Rev. Luke Hitchcock performing the marriage ceremony. To this union there were born ten children, eight of whom survive. The father passed away on June 20, 1888. Albert, the second son, was taken away March 2, 1872, and Frank, an infant, died on September 2, 1859. The surviving children are Mason L. Morey, Spirit Lake, Iowa; Mary S. Johnson, of this village; George E. Morey, Eldora, Ia.; Lettie E. Schreiber, of Chicago Heights, Ill.; Sarah Isabell Morris of Congress Park, Ill.; Charles M. Mrs. Morey's childhood days were spent at Great Bend, Pa. When about 18 years of age she came with her parents, one brother and two sisters, to Lee Center, Ill., having made the trip overland from Pennsylvania. Her brother, Hamilton Mayo, died at the age of 84 about three years ago and she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Emily Tripp and Mrs. Ellen Bixby, both of Round Lake, Minn; both are past 80 years of age. She was a member of the M. E. church of Lee Center, Ill., and died as she had always lived, a christian woman. The funeral services were held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Johnson in West Brooklyn on Monday morning, Rev. Otjen of Compton officiating. Burial was at Inlet, beside her husband.
The deceased was one of the early settlers of Lee county, having reached here in 1847. She had made a large acquaintance through her many years association with neighbors in her several abodes, all of whom join us in extending sympathy to her relatives in this, their trying moments. She is survived at this time by 34 grand children and 21 great grand children, besides the relatives of closer degree mentioned above.
